Are You The Owner (Or An Employee) of It’s My Life, Inc.?

The first 23 years of my career were spent working for corporations, big and small, but only in the recent part of my career have I become an owner of my own company. It’s no secret that in any company, the best workers are those who think like an owner.

Imagine the difference between an employee who just completes the tasks at hand, and an owner who is constantly asking herself, “What’s next? What can I do better? What’s something that will really propel me forward? How can I overcome this obstacle to make more progress?”

When you adopt the attitude and practices of a successful business owner, you practically guarantee your own health and well being. You will also eliminate the mentality of, “I work from 9 to 5 and then I go home.”

Do you want to live your life on a 9 – 5 basis? Or do you want your life to be one full of growth and progress? That’s how I want to live! Take a look at these 5 tips to live like a boss in your health and weight loss journey.

Tip 1: Always Ask Why Not

Most people ask, “Why?” I want you to ask, “Why not?”

For instance, when I decide to make a change and test something new either for my business or for my health, I don’t think, “Why me? Can I really do it?” I think, “Well, why couldn’t I do it?” "Let's see what happens." That’s how owners operate.

I always tell people who are new to their weight loss journey that, “There is no difference between me and you, other than I started first. I did it, so you can, too.” So many people approach weight loss with a failure mentality, but you know what? The people who succeeded aren’t special. They just have the right tools, the right attitude, and the right support.

Your time is now, truly. So get started before you scare the crap out of yourself!

Tip 2: Create Empowering Goals

The best goals are ones that evoke an empowering emotion.

For example, if your goal is to lose 20 pounds, and the feeling you have is dread and discouragement, I encourage you to change your goal.

What do you feel when I say the goal is "to feel alive again, to walk or run without feeling exhausted, to live life to the fullest and feel amazing?" Does that evoke a different feeling for you than the first goal?

When business owners set goals, they articulate the benefits, or as I like to call it the 'so what' of the goals. Detailing those benefits are more empowering and you have a better chance to be motivated by them than the ones that feel so bland and lifeless. So find your 'so what' and go after that!

Tip 3: Take Responsibility

Owners take 100% responsibility for their results. They know that in the end, they are the ones responsible for the health of their business. They have an attitude of, "There are no excuses, only challenges to overcome.”

As an employee working in a corporation, I saw many people who were happy to just pass the buck or point the finger. Owners don't do that because they know it wouldn't matter anyway. Ultimately the ownership is 100% on the boss.

"99% of the failures come from the people who have the habit of making excuses." - George Washington Carver

Tip 4: Evaluate, Adjust and Proceed

Don’t expect clear sailing in life. There will be bumps and bruises and turns and twists and tears. There will never be a perfect time for anything, and if you wait for it, you will never take action.

You have to just go for it. Make adjustments and keep moving forward, remembering that it's okay to slow down. If life is a highway, it’s perfectly okay to get off for a pit stop every now and again. Business owners recognize when something needs to change. They stop, evaluate, make adjustments, and then proceed.

Tip 5: Teamwork

This is the most important step! Business owners hire the right people who will support their vision. They know they can’t do it alone, and they ask for help when they need it.
